first, they pulled her teeth as they came in
to prevent her turning her fingertips into
hamburger, her lips and tongue into unknowing
battlefields.
then, they stitched her eyes shut to keep her
from poking them out or scratching the corneas
out of curiousity...
the other girl, a german, was somehow nine or
so before she discovered her reality and then
boys at school would beat her or try and stab
her to see 'if it was true'.
