After all, Emma’s Torch derives its name from the very poet whose words are engraved on a plaque within the base of the Statue of Liberty: Emma Lazarus. And it was her sonnet “The New Colossus” that contains those storied words, “Give me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…”
